PREFACEThis survey marks the end of our Diploma course at The Norwegian School of Information Technology (http://www.nith.no). It is closely connected to the CISAER project through an analysis we have conducted from November 1999 through February 2000. The aim was to find out how institutions that offer online courses make use of technology and design elements. The final report shows the extent of these elements and gives examples of how they are used. This analysis could never have been done without the co-operation of institutions worldwide. We would therefore like to thank all the persons that gave us access to their courses and made this survey possible. We would further like to thank the following persons for their contribution: Morten Flate Paulsen for his support and help as our advisor during the work with our report. His knowledge in this field is "tremendous", and he has always been available for us. Noelle Bøe for taking time to read through the report and refining our language. Torstein Rekkedal for experienced advises and comments. John Russel for being our English dictionary.
